Are you a college student? Are you the parent of a student? Do you have some questions about credit cards for college students?
Everyone has their own opinion on whether or not college students should have access to credit cads. Some people think this is a great idea, especially if it’s worked out well for them in the past. But others, such as those struggling with credit card debt, think this is a bad idea.
A financially responsible college student is one who won’t have any trouble using a credit card in the appropriate manner. Conversely, a student who is “loose” with his or her finances may begin to make poor financial decisions.
Here are five purchases for college students to make with a credit card:
- Books and supplies. Every college student needs books and a variety of supplies in order to achieve their goals. Once you know what you need, you’ll have a better idea of how much it’ll cost and whether or not your credit card is the right way to make a purchase.
- Maybe you need gas for your car. Or maybe you need to purchase a plane or bus ticket to get home. Either way, a credit card can help.
- You don’t want to go overboard, but food is critical to your well being and performing at a high level in the classroom.
- Do you need some help with a particular course or project? A tutor can step in and show you the way. This is one of those educational expenses that you may want to put on your credit card.
- Entertainment (within reason). This is a tricky one because it’s easy to get ahead of yourself, such as by using your credit card to eat out every night of the week. There’s nothing wrong with having a good time in college, but you don’t want to do so at the expense of a large credit card bill.
As a college student, this list can go a long way in helping you make better purchasing decisions with your credit card.
